Black Bear Fine Art is located in historic Ogunquit, Maine. Conveniently located only 1.5 hours north of Boston, Ogunquit is among Maine's most storied art colonies and summer resorts and for generations has been a destination for artists. This rich history of art continues to this day.
The gallery is scenically located near the entrance to Perkins Cove, near downtown Ogunquit and close to other destinations including the Ogunquit Museum of American Art. Situated in historic Thompson House on Thompson Green, located at 309 Shore road, Black Bear Fine Art is home to the renowned, large-scale reduction woodcuts of Don Gorvett. In addition to Don's work, our two-story gallery and studio features a unique collection of fine prints and other works by some of New England's most accomplished artists and printmakers, including Sidney Hurwitz, Alex deConstant, Conrad Marvin, Vivian Berman, Sean Hurley, Bill Duffy, Jeffrey and Lindley Briggs,
Penelope Jencks, and Ralph Gorvett .
Black Bear Fine Art opened in April 2011, prior to which time Don Gorvett had owned and operated Piscataqua Fine Arts Gallery and Printmaking Studio in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and later Gravure Gallery in Gloucester, MA. A full time resident of Ogunquit since the early 1990's, this is the first time that Don has operated a gallery and studio in his hometown and affords visitors a unique opportunity view his renowned work.
This summer, Black Bear Fine Arts will also feature Edward T. Pollock of A FINE THING: Edward T. Pollock Fine Arts, as guest purveyor of both historic and contemporary prints in our upstairs gallery. We'll also offer a selection of fine art books and rare portfolios from the inventory of Steven Schuyler, Bookseller.
