About our Studio:
Located in the same space as our gallery is our printmaking studio. The studio houses two etching presses - an American French Tool press with a 32" x 53" bed, and a Conrad Etching press (arriving this May) with a 24" x 48" bed. The Conrad press will be replacing our Herb Fox press, which is visible in the image at the bottom of this page.
The studio is well equipped with a variety of brayers, pallet knives, and other supplies required for the printing of both woodcuts and etchings. There are currently three large inking tables (with more planned), several other large work tables, and a 5' tall drying rack which can accomidate dozens of prints ranging in size
up to 30" x 48". For etching, we have a vertical etch tank with ferric chloride which can accomidate copper plates up to a size of 18"x24", a paper soaking tray that fits sheets up to 21"x26", and two hot plates suitable for most small and medium sized plates. One wall of the studio is composed of tackboard panel and is perfect for tacking up proofs and for drying etchings.
Located on the waterfront in historic downtown Portsmouth NH, the studio offers our artists an unrivaled place to work. Since it is open to our gallery space, it also offers the public a unique opportunity to view the printmaking processes first hand.
Starting this May, we will be offering a comprehensive shedule of workshops in woodblock printing, etching, and plate lithography. We also offer press time rental for artists requiring the equipment but not needing instruction.
The gallery/studio is open most days from approximately 10:00 am until at least 6:00 pm. Our phone number is (603) 431-4110.
